Back to the Beginning

Poor Ryan. I’m afraid I’m going to soak up every square inch of our new place. Before we moved we were certain we’d be settled into a fully finished studio (barn) space by this point. With all of the speed bumps we’ve hit along the way, I’ve instead taken over more and more space in our home. My latest victim…the basement.

After taking a week-long summer workshop at CCAD on alternative photography processes, I got bit with enough of a bug to start building my own darkroom. I’m still very much tied to digital image-capture and manipulation, but am interested in combining that with unique and handmade processes. This exploration actually started a couple of years ago, but I’m just now at the point where I really need a dedicated light-tight space.

Lucky for me, I came across an ad on Craigslist from someone who was looking to sell his entire darkroom setup. As life often goes, he used to love processing his own photos, but there just didn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to continue. I very soon discovered that it was a new passion that took its place…bicycling. When the previous owner drove out here to deliver all of the items at my request, his only wish to cover a delivery fee was for me to make a donation to his Pelotonia rider page. What a great guy!!

Anyway, I wanted to not only share my excitement about all of the learning (and, yeah, the nerd in me also can’t wait to start polishing things up, too), but also my appreciation for this person’s passion. I feel like the very least I can do is to post this link to his Pelotonia page so others can support a good person who is supporting a good cause.
